About MVKS

Building a Future Rooted in Dignity, Equality and Opportunity
Makkal Vilipunarvu Kalvi Sangam (MVKS) is a voluntary, non-governmental organisation established in 1996 in Tamil Nadu, India. For over 28 years, MVKS has dedicated itself to the social and economic empowerment of marginalised communities, with particular focus on women, children, Irular tribal communities, Dalit families, and persons with disabilities.
MVKS combines community mobilisation with practical, sustained interventions: foundational evening tuition for children, vocational training in Aari embroidery, wire-basket weaving and tailoring for women, digital literacy for youth, environmental protection, and active engagement with local governance institutions like the Gram Sabha.
Through the dedication of our field teams, volunteers, institutional partners, and generous well-wishers, we work across 40 villages in 4 districts to create genuine, measurable pathways to self-reliance and community leadership.
- Grassroots empowerment across Irular, Dalit, and Adivasi communities
- Foundational evening tuition centres operating across 10 rural villages
- Vocational skills, women’s enterprise federation, and MSME linkages
- Active in 40 villages across 4 districts of Tamil Nadu

Improve the socio-economic conditions of marginalised women through vocational training in Aari embroidery, wire-basket weaving, tailoring, MSME federation registration, and market linkages.
Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities
Actively promote the social inclusion, dignity, equal participation, legal rights, and comprehensive rehabilitation of persons living with disabilities in rural habitations.
Child Education & Dropout Prevention
Operate evening learning centres, provide foundational Maths & English support, conduct summer camps, and counsel parents to prevent child labour and re-enrol out-of-school children.
Health, Hygiene & Welfare Awareness
Conduct community awareness sessions on preventative healthcare, hygiene, and guidance on accessing government welfare schemes, ration cards, Aadhaar, and Scheduled Tribe certificates.
Local Governance & Gram Sabha Voice
Encourage Irular and Dalit families to participate actively in Gram Sabha meetings and School Management Committees (SMC), securing access to drinking water, electricity, and roads.
Our Operating Method: MVKS works hand-in-hand with village community groups, local trainers, volunteers, parents, Self-Help Groups, and Panchayat representatives. Regular field visits, attendance tracking, parent counselling, and community meetings help us understand local needs and strengthen implementation.
